Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #22 - Singing in the Rain

Good Morning Everyone,

Are you all experiencign any spring weather yet? If not, don't despair, here is an absolute fun-tabulous movie that will totally put the spring in your steps and have you dancing in no time.!
Every week, Brooke and I do the Cinema Saturday challenge, where have fun picking a movie from which to draw inspiration from which to draw inspiration from in making a card, LO or scrapbook page. This week's movie choice is Singing in the Rain!

I am just in love with the dance moves and the absolute delight that Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor bring to the screen! I had a smile on my face the whole time - I loved the comedic lines, the songs, the dances, the outfits and the colors! What a great movie!!!

My favorite song is the last one entitled "Lucky Star" - one of the lines from this song reads:"You are my lucky Star" So that is what I used as my starting point for the card. You can WATCH the song right here. I just loved the sweetness and softness of this song - and so I made a card inspired by this song - but used the colors in the title dance song Singing in the Rain. The requirement this week was to use the water element into your card.

I used Kazan's beautiful sketch #21 - I seriously am amazed by the creations that Laura and Kazan create each week and also the beautiful creations of their awesome Design Team - please check out their awesome sketch challenge blog and join in on the fun! I rotated Kazan's sketch 90 degrees clockwise - and in the center stamped: You are my lucky star - which is a line from the last song of the movie.

Card Details:
Paper: All paper from the Paper Company - I used some opalescent gift wrap paper over one sheet to give the watery illusion...
Ink: Taken with Teal SU!
Accessories: Creative Memories Star punch, Liquid Pearls, corner rounder, Stardust stickles

My daughter was not feeling well last night - and I don't think I slept more than an hour... I stole away this morning to quickly make my card -- and interestingly enough - it has been raining - can you see the drops on the window? It totally made me want to go out and sing in the rain - except that its freezing :)

Hope you play along with us - you can check out more details at our Cinema Saturday blog.

Lots of sunny hugs,
Sankari

PS - Here is some interesting trivia from IMdB - did you know that Gene Kelly had a 103 degree fever when he danced to the song Singing in the Rain? He insited upon one take - and that was all that it took! The rain in the The Singing in the Rain dance/ scene was a mix of water and milk - so that it would show up better on the screen (although it caused Gene Kelly's wool coat to shrink in the process! You can read more of these trivia points here - and if you haven't seen this movie yet - the mastery, the spunk, the dance - is a complete delight - and is sure to bring a smile to your faces!!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge - #20 - The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons

Hi Everyone,

Its been quite a little vacation for us - but a much needed one! I can't believe its been almost two weeks since I blogged - wow! It was definitely nice to take a break and chillax with my family but I have missed all of you in blogland and can't wait to catch up with everyone!

As many of you know, my friend Brooke and I run a challenge every saturday called the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge. Every Saturday, Brooke and I pick a movie from which we draw inspiration to make a card/layout,altered project. This week, Brooke and I thought that we would do something different this saturday in honor of the Oscars and do a current movie:

Welcome Everyone to the Oscar Celebration over at
Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge!!

This is one of the five amazing movies that are up for nomination for Best Picture this year. This movie is inspired from F.Scott Fitzgerald's 1921 inspired short story by the same name. According to Wikipedia, this movie: "has received 13 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress."

And even if you haven't seen it - that's okay!! We would love for you to play along - all you have to do is to follow the requirement for this week:

The Requirement this week:
Is to go vintage! Even if you haven't seen this movie, we would love you to play along and make vintage inspired by the tagline from this movie which is:
Life isn't measure in minutes, but in moments.

I had been resisting seeing this movie - I don't know why exactly. I went to see it with one of my dear friends and was somehow not expecting anything huge (I thought it would be a good movie, but nothing spectacular). Well, by the end of the movie - I was just sobbing.... I don't even know why - but I was just in love with the movie... there is something so simple and beautiful about it and I thought Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt (whom, I normally don't really like) were amazing - they both did such an amazing job! I couldn't believe how affected I was by the movie - I can't wait to see it again!

Without giving anything away about the movie - I loved loved loved the theme of a love story moving through time. One of my favorite scenes is when he says to her something like: I want to remember us in this moment as we are right now as they both were looking in the mirror - I totally loved that scene and so that was my inspiration for this card.
I wanted to capture a moment in time - I found pictures of my husband and myself when we were both young and enclosed that in a locket. This is a special card for my husband, who came home last night after a 2 week business trip.

This was inspired by the sketch challenge from the lovely ladies at 2 Sketches 4 You. I have missed doing their challenges for so long now (a big wave to Laura and Kazan! and congrats to the awesome spring DT!). I love the top right corner of the sketch with the little swirl element. I added some curled paper - which are a symbol of time unravelling - and that sometimes time doesn't have to be linear ...

I had a lot of fun making this card and also going vintage which is the theme of this week's Cinema Saturday Challenge. This movie really made me think about time, family, love and how we live each moment of life. I just absolutely left inspired and grateful.
I love the little pictures of us when we were a baby - and always have imagined how wonderful it would be if we had grown up together and been together from the very beginning. This is a picture with the locket open:But I am so thankful and grateful that we found each other
and this little card was a little love note for his return.

The inside of the card reads: Time stands still with you. It is just amazing to me that we have know each other 10 years now, married for 8 this May because it feels like we have known each other forever, for lifetimes... time is such a strange concept sometimes... sometimes 10 years feels like a long time and sometimes it feels like the blink of an eye!

When you hold the card up all the way - then it looks something like this:

My husband totally loved opening up his card last night - and that was the best part of making this card - was to see his expression. That was priceless and is forever captured in time in my memory:) What are your Oscar plans this weekend? Ours is to snuggle on the couch and watch with our family - there are really some amazing movies up for nomination this year!

So are you ready to play along!! We sure hope you join us this week!

You can check out more details on the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge blog.

Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend!

Thank you so much for coming over for a visit!!
Ciao for now,
Sankari :)
