Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge - #15 - Casablanca

Good Saturday Morning Everyone,

Every saturday, we pick a movie from which to draw inspiration from in creating a card, layout, altered project, etc. This Saturday, our Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge blog is featuring the movie Casablanca! We changed it up a little this week and included a color challenge: that has a black and white tones with one other color of your choice! Link your project to THIS post by 9pm PST on January 22 to be entered - and the card/project that is chosen - will be featured on PaperCraftPlanet!!! So come on and give it a whirl!

I have to admit that this is a movie that I hadn't seen before - it has always been on my list (that's why I love doing these challenges - because I get to watch some wonderful movies that I hadn't seen yet!). Well, I watched this movie - this week - and just loved it - Ingrid Bergman - is just so very lovely to watch. I can't believe that it was released 67 years ago!!! WOW! What surprised me in watching it was that the famous line: We will always have Paris -- came from this movie!! Wow! I didn't know that - so when I was watching the movie and I heard that line - I knew right then that I wanted to make acard withat that theme on it. I used Julee's Mojo Monday sketch #69 for this card.

I absolutely loved watching this movie and my most favorite thing was to call my dad who loves this movie and talk about it with him. Its always fun to see the movie through the eyes of my parents and what certain scenes mean to them. I will always watch Casablanca from now on with this conversation with my dad in my head.

For this card - I knew I wanted to do something soft and black and white with something about Paris. I was inspried by Kathie Bailey's beautiful Bonjour card for the last Mojo Monday and loved the color scheme that she used - it was so romantic - thank you Kathie :) I love watching a black and white movie - colorizing it somehow takes away something so special about that movie... I really enjoyed making a black and whtie card - and picked a pink tones for the "one other color accent"

Did you know that Casablanca is a 3 time Oscar winning movie (including Oscar for Best Picture) and was released in 1942 and has since then become an iconoic classic. It has been rated as the # 1 most romantic American movie by the American Film Institute!!! It was also rated to have the #1 most romantic kiss between Ingrid Bergman and Humprey Bogart! Well - that's alot of romance wrapped into one movie! If you are inspired to make a romantic black and white card (with one other color) then come on over and play with us! You never know - your card could be chosen to be featured on PaperCraftPlanet!

I hope you all stop by the Cinema Saturday Blog !! Just link up your black and white love creation to use by next thrusday 9pm PST and post it on the comment section here.

Thanks so much for visiting me - make sure to also go and visit Brooke!!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge # 13 - Mama Mia!

Okay - can I just say two things! First of all, you guys are AWESOME!! I had so much fun at the sneak peek last night (errr... this morning ;) I loved reading all your guesses and it was like a total slumber party!! Seriously, you guys totally are the best!! and Secondly, I am soooooo excited about this movie!! I only watched it for the first time two days ago and already, I have seen the whole thing twice and certain songs about 30 times!! Just ask my poor dear husband, LOL!

I have to say, I kinda resisted watching this movie... don't ask me why... I mean, I completely adore Colin Firth and Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnon (ok... enough said!), but somehow, I just didn't want to watch it (what was I thinking!!!) and I knew this movie was coming up and I still hadn't seen it! but today was fast approaching and at the last minute, we got it and started watching it and thus started my love affair with this movie! I LOVE IT!!! So for all of you who might not have seen it - this movie musical is fan-tas-tic! or should I say FUN-tas-tic!!!! Seriously - its just absolute fun!!!

I had a project idea in my mind when I first started making a card for this movie - to make Aphrodite's Fountain of Love like seen in the movie and I was working on it... till suddenly when I looked at it -- it didn't so much look like a fountain - but more like a lot of mush thrown together... so I scrapped that idea really late in the game (just ask Ann and Samantha! who were up a little late with me ). So I fell back on my number 2 project idea (I had like a zillion project ideas for this movie... sheesh!) to create a card based on the song "Take a Chance on Me" using the colors pink and greek island water blue :). If you click on the song link above, it will take you to a Youtube video showing less than a minute of this song from the movie. I so love Julie Walter's doing this song!!! So from this song, I created this card:
here is a side view of the card - lots of dimensionals... clearly a card that needs extra postage, LOL!

I love this song - to me it totally summarizes this movie for me... (****spoiler alert for movie plot details - for those who don't want to know this - skip this paragraph :)
It shows the daughter Sophie taking a chance and inviting all her potential dads to her wedding, the three guys take a chance and leave their lives to come back to where they fell in love, Donna takes a chance at the end of the movie and reveals that she doesn't know who Sophie's dad is (which she was afraid to do since she didn't know what her daughter might think), Donna and Sam take a second chance on each other (soooo sweet!! and in the end they all take a chance on love and on following their dreams :) !!! Totally lOVE this song!! I have to dance everytime I sing... well, dancing and spinning around too :)
and another side view....

The opening of the shutters - is kind of like the opening of your heart to the possiblities in front of you ... I created a template for the "window and shutters" and then cut one part in half so that it would open. On either shutter, I scored at 1/4" creating a kind of shutter blind look. The inside of view of the shutters mirrors the movie jacket cover... all created with some SU! Taken with Teal ink and some masking with post it notes. The letters for the sentiment: "Take a chance on me" was created using the stamp set of individual alphabet stamps by G studio. The heart is from the SU! set Loving Hearts and was stamped in SU! Rose Red ink and then shiny-fied with liquid glaze. I tried to create an arch of hearts mimicking the arc of flowers from the movie jacket. The larger ribbon is from Taylored expressions and the smaller ribbon is from Offray. Each layer was popped up with dimensionals.

I had a lot of fun creating this card because I was watching the movie and dancing in my chair in my pajamas while creating it... whoo-hoo!!! I totally love it when you love what you are doing, love what you are listening to and feel like you LOVE the whole world!!!!

I have so enjoyed getting to meet all of you who do these Cinema Saturday blog challenges with us and for all of you who come over for a quick visit!!! and I hope that this New Year brings you all amazing possiblites for you to take chances on!!!

Happy Happy 2009!

lots of love,
Sankari :)

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #1 - Pride & Prejudice

Good Saturday Morning Everyone!!!

Our challenge site: Cinema Saturday premiers today!!!!  Click HERE to check it out!

This week challenge draws inspiration from
Pride & Prejudice.

This is a site where we (Brooke and I) pick out a movie and then create a card, altered project, scrapbook page etc. from any inspiration from the movie - it could be from anything, like the costumes, the furniture, the dialogue, the colors, the movie cover, the characters, etc. Brooke and I discovered our love for all things  Jane Austen and so we had to pick Pride & Prejudice for our first cinema inspiration.

I think I have watched this movie over.... 30 or 40 times..... (both versions included!) and then have watched some scenes in particular over and over and over....such as both of Darcy's proposals and especially the Lake Scene with Colin Firth (...sigh..). If you have never seen this movie - you can get more information at Wikipedia, click here to read Austen's novel online, click here for more info about the TV mini series from the UK (starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehlie), click here for more info about the 2005 movie (starring Matthew McFadden and Keira Knightly).
For this card - I drew my inspiration from Austen's words... I love her use of language - it is just beautiful to read her books and beautiful to hear them on the silver screen. One of my most favorite lines from Austen is the phrase from Mr. Darcy: " You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you...." I love love love love that line (and love watching Colin Firth delivering them in his first disasterous proposal - click here to watch it on Youtube).
The other phrase that I love is from the Mr. Darcy played by Matthew McFadden when he says in the second proposal: "You have bewitched me, body and soul..." (click here to watch it on Youtube). I love these two lines and can merged them together for my card.
The outside of the card is kind of hard to read (sorry about that) and it says: "I love you ardently..." and then the inside says: "body & soul". This card was made for my DH who I adore and love and wanted to make him a special card to show how much I appreciate him for all the wonderful things he does for us.

At first when I was making the card - I started out with more of a muted green and blue... but somehow it didn't feel... ardent enough (LOL!)  - so I switched it to the orange and kept the blue. The scalloped edging was made in photoshop and then cut in half and adhered with brads - the same motif was adhered on the inside of the card (where it was already printed out "body and soul" from my computer.
The sentiment on the front that reads " I love you ardently.." was written out with paint (hard to take a pic of it in the sunlight...). The ribbons were a cream and white ribbon adhered together into a bow as a tribute to Mr.Darcy's collar ties. And then I of course had to paint some dots around the card - can't help it. (Brooke and I joke about my love for using paint on a card and her love for using Crystal Effects...  :)
In making this card - I watched a lot of Pride & Prejudice on Youtube.. and I feel even more in love with the book and the characters - and I love Austen's language in her book... I have been trying to talk like Elizabeth Bennett's character and have been cracking myself up in the process... Anyhoo - it has been a really fun challenge and I hope that all of you come and join us!!!

All you have to do is create a card, scrapbook page, or altered project and then link it to the post HERE on the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge blog by Thursday, October 16, 2008.
