Butterfly Thank You Card!

Hello All,

Today is a bright and sunny morning and we have big plans to make a quick stop at the post office, hit the park and stroll around the town square (I will be strolling as the kids sit in their stroller... have you ever noticed that the more you write the same word - the stranger it looks?? anyhooooo.... I digress....)  This weeks fun color swatch from the lovely ladies at the Color Throwdown (yes! I still love saying that word! who doesn't??!!) are these lovely 5 colors above. 

I was trying to figure out how to play with it... I think the color that really inspired me was the soft sky - it is a beautiful summery color and so I wanted to create a little summer scene.... but I was too lazy to clean up my craft corner (see post below) and so I decided to play in photoshop. The sentiment reads "Thank you for your kindness" and after printing it out, I added a brad (from American craft) on the main butterfly, some stickles on the butterflies (you can't go wrong with a little stickles on your card) and threw some ribbon (from Offray) and added some Faith dots with my paintbrush.  

I like the way this card came out. Its very soft and was made for my friend who just sent us a huge package of goodies. So I am off to the post office, but first need to go and clean up the breakfast mess (my daughter is learning to eat by herself - i think we need to get a dog so that I don't have to mop up 3 times a day (get a tarp on the floor you say? yes her range in throwing food is in the same league as legendary pitcher Nolan Ryan) so... off I go to clean the floor.... again!

Black Butterfly card

Hello Everyone,

This is card quick quick quick (did I say quick?) card that I made for the Fabulous Julee's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge and for the color inspiration challenge hosted by the Amazing ladies at the Color Throwdown. And even though we are going on our 2nd summer roadtrip - I had to make a card first :) We are heading out of town in about --- oh - 3 hours - and I haven't packed = aie!!! 

Why haven't you packed - you ask? well - first I had to do laundry and then I thought -I might as well make a card while I make a card - love Julee's Mojo Monday's and I love the Colors that are being thrown down - and to leave town and not make a card seemed wrong - so I HAD to make a card.....

But, the only thing is - I am not sure if I like how it turned out... this was made so quick - like less than 20 minutes - it would have been sooner - but I had to figure out which stamp I wanted and then I had to find it.... but anyhoo - what I was saying - is that it was so quick that it kinda surprised me - but I am still not sure about the end result - and since I have already cleaned up my scrap corner (it really is literally a corner :) I can't adjust things - and even if I wanted to adjust things - I have to pack -- which brings me to the conclusion that I need to finish my blatherings and just post this :)

If you made it this far in reading this - I thank you and ask you to pardon my early morning ramblings. We are off to Minneapolis today (!) and will be spending time with my in-laws and our friends up there - going to the CM convention, going up to the cabin by the lake and definitely walking around Lake Harriett :) Sooooo I can' wait - just hope the little ones do well on the road :) I  hope that all of you are doing well and are enjoying your thursdays :)

I will try to post some pics and some cards this weekend - so hope you come back for a visit :)

Color Inspiration Challenge #14

Hi Everyone, 

Its time for another awesome Kristina Werner: Color Inspiration Challenge. I really loved this challenge because I haven't really used this color scheme yet - and I have to say that it was the most fun that I have had making a card.  

The five colors for the challenge were: Whisper White, Basic Black, Basic Gray, Ruby Red and River Rock. Since we could opt out of the Ruby Red/River Rock, I chose to opt out of the River Rock.  I just loved the look of the monochromatic with a splash from the red spectrum. 

Now first things first. I know, I know I know that this is NOT a practical card - in that it won't fit in your everyday envelope - but it was SO fun to make that, I just didn't want to focus on any practical issues :)

 

The black and gray cardstock is from my scrap pile. The DP is from me and my big ideas - I was going to use it for a scrapbook layout - but then thought that it would fit in with this challenge. The big beautiful butterfly is from Midwest Design and is made of dyed feathers with glitter. Its really soooo beautiful and lovely and makes the card so very unpractical but so very yummy :)  The metal ribbon charm is from Making Memories and the Gray/Silver ribbon is from Wrights (Casa Collection). The stamped sentiment is from Clear Stamps (Heidi Grace designs) and was stamped with Black Stazon Ink. I am not sure where the flowers are from - these were bought pre-blogging days, where I didn't keep the companies that made products. 

 

I can't even tell you how much fun this particular group of colors were - I totally loved it and had a million different ideas. I am not sure if this is particularly sassy?, but I was just going for a BIG, different, FUN, bold look.... and it was definitely fun.

Color Inspiration Challenge #11

Hi Ya'll,

After road tripping across 7 states from Iowa to Maryland with two little ones under the age of 3 - we finally made it to my parent's house happy and relieved. We have been here in Baltimore this last week for my father's surgery. I cannot even tell you how intense this week has been - but everyone has had their sweet attention on my dad and thanks to that - he came through the operation ok (for an aortic aneurysm with a double bypass on the femoral arteries). Thanks to everyone's prayers and good wishes he is doing fine. And he got to come home today!!!! YAY! I am so grateful for every little thing. It is so good to finally see him home without any tubes or wires - sigh - what a huge relief. 

My travel craft pack has been packed in a box this week while we went back an forth from the hospital. The one thing that has caused that craft pack to open is Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration Challenge. I thought I could resist doing one - but I couldn't. So last night - out came the mini craft travel kit and I tried to see what I had with these colors for the challenge:  Whisper White, So Saffron, Going Gray, Rose Red and Old Olive. Kristina got her inspiration from this picture from Ikea:

I love Ikea - I got lost in there for a week once - just always came out filled with ideas. So here is my take on her challenge. Hope its ok. I just realized how hard it is to photograph a picture and have it feel true to life - I finally took my card outside and set it in the grass and tried it with the sunlight - which felt more apt since the card was filled with butterflies.

The recipe for the card is pretty simple -  cardstock colors according to those of the challenge, some brads, some embossing powder and the butterfly stamp from (? oh dear - I have packed everything away - will have to post that later :)

I love these color challenges because they make you think in a different way than you usually think - and makes you try and play with the space a little differently. I feel so recharged after making a card - phew! I needed that - its so amazing how doing something creative can cause all the endorphins to rush around and create little tiny bubbles of bliss cruising around your body :) Wow  - I think I will have to find a nook here to unpack my craft pack and make a card every day to post. Can't wait to see the Round Up on Kristina's blog and also the next MACM on Youtube Hope all of you are well.
