KW Color Inspriation #45 - Just Because (TECC59)

Did I mention earlier how happy I am that today is friday ?? So happy that I sat down and made my second card of the day, this time using Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration Challenge #45 - which is to make a monochromatic card using the colors: Basic Black, Basic Gray and Whisper White. I haven't made a monochromatic card in awhile, so I was happy to jump into this challenge!

I used the same sketch from this morning's card to make this card, which is Taylor's Sketch #59  (i love Taylor's sketches!) and I also used Taylor's newest stamp set: Branching Out. , which as you probably know by now, I completely adore and LOVE!! had a lot of fun stamping and cutting and pasting... talk about stamp therapy! I don't know about you guys, but this week has been insane in the membrane (and now, that song is stuck in my head) anyhooo... I am so happy to be done with the work week and have some play time :)

So, who is this card for? My DH! I hope he likes it :) He has been such a trooper this week helping me out - and I just wanted to show him a little love :) Its so nice to make cards for him because he totally loves looking at them...and that makes everything so worth it!

Taylor's Cupcake Challenge #59 - Basketful of Blessings and a chance for some Twinkles!

I for one am sooo TGIF! And what a great way to celebrate Friday then with some cupcakes and a chance to win some Taylor's Tiny Twinkles!!! Here is this week's sketch from Taylor's weekly Friday Cupcake Sketch Challenge - you don't have to use cupcakes, but if you have them, why not use 'em!

I had a lot of fun creating a card with this sketch! I used this cutie pie cupcake in a basket from Taylor's newest stamp release: Sweet Spring and also all the paper and embellies are from the Easter Key Ingredient Kit (which I love and adore - you can check out a scrapbook page done only with the papers in this kit here). The handle of the easter basket is adorned with Taylor's Tiny Twinkles -- aren't they so cute!

Scrappy Sunday - Challenge #3

Hi Everyone, 

Can I just tell you that I am LOVING doing these scrapbook sketch challenges that my dear friend Jen Tapler is creating over at Paper Craft Planet's Scrappy Sunday group! I used to scrap all the time, but haven't really done any scrapbooking in sooo very long - so its so nice to use these awesome sketches and get some scrappy mojo going. I seriously, love Jen's style - it is just perfect and fun and bright and cheery - and not only is Jen uber talented, she is also just the sweetest too! She always brings a smile to my face - and her love for Tom Selleck is just epic ;) 

Well, I was hooked from the very first sketch challenge that I did (you can check it out here) and I couldn't wait for this week's challenge. This week Jen has used a digital template from Kelleigh Ratzlaff as the basis for the sketch (you can check out Kelleigh's store Digichicks and also purchase the template if you want to get digi with it :). 

The greatest thing about this challenge is that it is helping me create a scrapbook for my daughter and so each week, I am using the sketches that Jen provides to create a little book for my wee one. I also absolutely love love love the colors and patterns from the Easter Key Ingredients that Taylor has and so I decided to use this key ingredients set in my each of my layouts for the scrapbook challenges - so that I can create a book where each page is coordinating with the next one. 

Taylor has these awesome calendar stands in her store - and I lOVE this product - each week after I do my sketch, I just simply slide it into the plastic protector for this stand and voila! instant home decor! And its so great to display it around the house and my daughter just loves it -- she actually loves anything with her picture on it :)

For this week's sketch, I wanted to try something a little different. In photoshop, I played with the colors so that the whole picture is black and white, except for her pink hat, mittens and boots... it was kind of nice to highlight her little pink accessories and also added some mist effect to the snow that she is holding in her hand - so that it looks all sparkley and glittery :)

I simply love this picture... she was sooo curious and in wonder about snow -- she kept wanting to hold it, lick it, eat it, roll in it, look at it, slide in it, jump in it -- anything to do with it - she was all about it!

I totally dislike my handwriting in my scrapbook pages - because I feel like it detracts from the page itself - but, I had to succumb to the fact that my handwriting is not perfect and just do it anyway ... I wrote: "..i loved watching you discover snow - it was magical to see the world through your eyes." It really is such a wonder to see the world through your children's eyes and see the wonder and beauty of the world around us - which I so easily forget in the hustle and bustle of trying to get the kids to school or go off to work... its so wonderful to be around children and just be able to enjoy the simple innocence of snow, or mud or digging for buried treasure and swinging high in the air trying to touch the sky :)

Color Throwdown - Dream Big card

Hello All, 

I had a quick chance to play along at the color challenge that the A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! ladies at the Color Throwdown are throwing down this week, while my little ones had snack and were playing with their new hotwheel cars (yes, my little daughter is waaaay into hotwheels, can you tell, she has an older brother??? lol!)

I have been meaning to play along every week, and every week, I remember on tuesday night and then I promise myself that I am going to play the next week - and now weeks later, I am so psyched that I actually made a card and am posting it the day after the challenge went up! woo-hoo!!!  

This week's colors are soooo pretty together (tempting turquoise, elegant eggplant and green of choice) I didn't really have anything turquoise-y , so I went for the closest thing I had and.... I only had about 20 minutes - so I quickly threw this together.

There is a multi-media pack from DCVW that has these color flowers in it - so I cut a few out, created a wave on the white cardstock, stamped the sentiment and then punched out mini circles to create a scalloped edge and then added liquid pearls and dots... seriously quick --- I had to be quick to try to take a picture of it in the setting sunlight.. I love this stamp set - I think it is my favorite and it felt so good to pull it out and use it! 

The sentiment reads: Dreams come a size too big so we can grown into them." Isn't that just sooo inspiring? I love it!! And I love being able to dream... what are some of your big dreams? One of mine is to travel the world with my family and be able to enjoy the wonders of this beautiful planet -- and the other is to meet Johnny Depp, my secret crush (well, not so secret anymore :) since I was 12 ;)

Well, that's it for me.... well actually there is one more... I just finished my scrapbook layout for the Scrappy Sunday challenge - so that one I will post in a few minutes too :)

Got Cake???

Good Thursday Morning Everyone,

Here is a card that I made using Laura's awesome sketch #21 over at 2S4U - LOVE it!!!  I love the circle and the square element of the sketch. I also did the Caardvarks challenge which was to create a critter card - just the name of which (critter card) makes me totally smile :) !!! I also was psyched to play with the OCC challenge which was to add a doodle to your card or creation. 

For these challenges, I had to pull out Harold - I totally love this little guy - he is just soooo darn cute! He always brings a smile to my face and just stamping him makes me so happy...! I paper pieced him onto brown cardstock and then filled his eyes in and then drew his eyeballs - which made me giggle :) I love his sweet expression and love the way he is holding a cupcake (i had to add a little bling to that cute little cherry).

Thinking of You Card

Happy Wednesday Everyone,

How are you all doing? I am as always excited about Wednesdays - because the weekend is within sight :) lol! Its been so long since I did a TCP challenge (The Cat's Pajamas) - this week the uber talented Jen del Muro is the hostess with the mostess and this week she has a color challenge for us (light pink, light yellow and light blue - with any shade of brown as an optional color).  

Jen also has a wonderful sketch challenge (Sketch for You To 

Try). So, I thought I would combine her sketch with the TCP color challenge that she is hosting - its such a fun combination of spring colors - so I had to pull out Taylor's newest stamp release: Branching Out.

 I love this stamp set -it is so super cute - and thought I would try a little something different. I wanted to go for a spring blossom tree - so I stamped the tree onto Basic Grey Paper and then paper pieced all the leaves from pink cardstock. I then stamped the tree branch in Adirondack Expresso and then dotted the tree in pink liquid pearls for a kind of flowery effect and then covered the whole thing in stickles and coarse crystals from Martha Stewart. Its pretty glittery in the sunlight - but its hard to tell in the picture. This is such a whimsy set - and so its so much fun to let the imagination take flight and go all whimsy (sure, trees can have pink leaves, lol!!)

The light blue paper is a really soft pretty handmade paper that is kind of like tissue paper - its so pretty that I have been hoarding it - but I am trying to be better these days about actually using all the paper in my stash (so that I can buy more! lol!). 

Well, I am off to finish cleaning up the house - we have had two sick little ones - and its amazing how quickly the house can go from "somewhat clean and presentable" to "national disaster zone". Hope you are all in good health and are enjoying your wednesdays!!

Christmas Stampin All Year Long - Challenge #7

Good Morning Everyone - can you believe that its Monday (again lol!)

I am not sure what happened to last week - it flew by me! And this time change thing has really gotten me all tangled and twisted up... I like the fall time change better - the spring one always throws me off...

Speaking of time - its Monday and that means that its another challenge from the "Christmas Stamping All Year Long" blog, which I am so plum pleased to be a part of - Every week there is a challenge - from which we create Christmas cards - this is such a nice way to get motivated to get those Christmas cards started early - seriously - this last year - I completely procrastianted in making all my cards - so this year - I am starting a little ahead of time - like 9 months ahead!and this challenge blog is the best thing because it helps be stay motivated.

This week - the challenge was to create your own sketch and a card from your own sketch - which was actually challenging - so I went with the "less is more" approach and created a simple card (20 mintues) and tried to keep the layers and all down... (I have to take a pic of it in daylight - I apologize for the darker quality)

Taylor's Cupcake Challenge #58 - Sentimentaly Spring

Good Sunday Morning and Happy Spring Forward!!!

I don't know about you guys - but the Spring time change (springing one hour ahead - always throws me off! I woke up today and wondered - wait a minute how is it already 8am ... where did the time literally fly off too??! 

In celebration of the Spring forward time change and also the fact that it must mean that spring is on the way (thank goodness! winter in iowa is not the easiest of seasons!) I made a little Happy Spring card! Here is another awesome sketch from Taylor from her Friday Cupcake Challenge #58. It's been one year since Taylor opened her store Taylored Expressions and in honor of that - Taylor is celebrating with party favors, prizes and gifts - go on and check it out!

I made a card for this challenge using Taylor's sketch and her color challenge from Thursday. I love these colors together - it reminds me of a fruit sorbet medley. I made this Happy Spring card for one of my friends who I am going to see later on today for a little girl's afternoon out!

I made a little mini library card style holder for each ofthe square elements in alternating colors from the challenge that Taylor had posted on Thursday (all you have to do is create a card with the colors from this post, upload it to Paper Craft Planet with the keyword tecolorchallenge and you are eligible to win the Birthday Boy Key Ingredients set - which is a wonderful set of heavy duty cardstock, beautiful and bright DP and coordinating brads and glitter ). Who doesn't love a chance to score some free DP and paper and embellies!!

 

In each of the boxes I put a little sentiment from Taylor's stamp sets punched with a Fiskar's tag punch. I thought it would be fun to have an interactive kind of card. The main kind of theme that I was going for - was a celebration of Spring card --- just because :) 

The square elements were punched out and folded in the alternating colors from Taylor's color challenge. I inked the sentiments in SU! Rose Ted with the top and bottom sentiments reading: Celebrate and the middle row reading: just because (this sentiment is from Taylor's newest stamp set - Branching Out - I love this set and this sentiment - because sometimes you need a "just because" kind of card :). The very middle sentiment reads: Happy Spring! Yay! I can't wait for Spring! I am so excited to get out of all these layers of winter clothes!!!

The sentiments read: Celebrate (from the Year of Senitments) and Just Because (from the Branching Out set) and in the middle square element it reads: Happy Spring (from Year of Sentiments). I thought it would be kind of fun for her to pull out the little sentiments.

KW Color Inspriation #44 - A Chocolate Friendship

Good Morning Everyone,

I am so happy that to be able to do Kristina Werner's color challenge today! I haven't been able to play along in the last ones because of work.

I just absolutely LOVEd these colors that she picked for her inspiration and I totally LOVE the picture behind her inspiration (she took i from a children's store) - so sweet!

As soon as I saw that chocolate chip was on of the colors for this week, I had to make a card with chocolate! I used Lori Techler's awesome sketch for this week's sketch challenge over at Paper Craft Planet:

I made this card for a special friend of mine who I totally adore but haven't seen in a long time. I saw her the other day and it felt so good to hang out and talk and laugh - so I made her a little card to tell her how much I adore her :) One of my most favorite memories of her and I were when we lived in Switzerland for a little bit - we completely were head and heels in love with their chocolate.... One of my favorite memories is her a dipping an orange chocolate slice (something like this picture) into a jar of Nutella!

How is your Saturday going? Any special plans? Unfortunately, all my plans involve me and the laundry machine and 4-5 loads of laundry - not a very fun way to spend Saturday - but I suppose an important one so that we can have clean clothes next week :) lol :) Our wee ones have a second round of the cough - ugh! CanNOT wait for spring - hope all of you are happy and healthy!!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #22 - Singing in the Rain

Good Morning Everyone,

Are you all experiencign any spring weather yet? If not, don't despair, here is an absolute fun-tabulous movie that will totally put the spring in your steps and have you dancing in no time.!

Every week, Brooke and I do the Cinema Saturday challenge, where have fun picking a movie from which to draw inspiration from which to draw inspiration from in making a card, LO or scrapbook page. This week's movie choice is Singing in the Rain!

I am just in love with the dance moves and the absolute delight that Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor bring to the screen! I had a smile on my face the whole time - I loved the comedic lines, the songs, the dances, the outfits and the colors! What a great movie!!!

My favorite song is the last one entitled "Lucky Star" - one of the lines from this song reads:"You are my lucky Star" So that is what I used as my starting point for the card. You can WATCH the song right here. I just loved the sweetness and softness of this song - and so I made a card inspired by this song - but used the colors in the title dance song Singing in the Rain.The requirement this week was to use the water element into your card.

I used Kazan's beautiful sketch #21 - I seriously am amazed by the creations that Laura and Kazan create each week and also the beautiful creations of their awesome Design Team - please check out their awesome sketch challenge blog and join in on the fun! I rotated Kazan's sketch 90 degrees clockwise - and in the center stamped: You are my lucky star - which is a line from the last song of the movie.

My daughter was not feeling well last night - and I don't think I slept more than an hour... I stole away this morning to quickly make my card -- and interestingly enough - it has been raining - can you see the drops on the window? It totally made me want to go out and sing in the rain - except that its freezing :)

PS - Here is some interesting trivia from IMdB - did you know that Gene Kelly had a 103 degree fever when he danced to the song Singing in the Rain? He insited upon one take - and that was all that it took! The rain in the The Singing in the Rain dance/ scene was a mix of water and milk - so that it would show up better on the screen (although it caused Gene Kelly's wool coat to shrink in the process! You can read more of these trivia points here - and if you haven't seen this movie yet - the mastery, the spunk, the dance - is a complete delight - and is sure to bring a smile to your faces!!!

Newsletter, Liquid Pearl Featurette and Birthday Celebrations

Good Friday Morning Everyone,

Wow! What a week!!! Taylor just released her newest set of stamps this week and you can take a peek at all new products that are fresh out of the oven over at her store Taylored Expressions. Today, I am totally honored to the Featured Baker's Design Team Member for the Taylored Expressions newsletter. You can subscribe to the newsletter by visiting the Stamp a Sweet Impression blog and then click on the "subscribe to our newsletter" button on the right hand side.

When I was talking to Taylor about the project for the newsletter, she mentioned to maybe do a little tutorial on how to use Liquid Pearls! Well, first of all as many of you know -- I LOVE LIQUID PEARLS!!! I use them all the time - and actually have to resist the urge from putting them all over every card!!! lol!! So I jumped at the chance! 

So what are liquid pearls? They are a dimensional decoration that has a pearlized sheen and they are great for embellishing paper and fabric. It is a wonderfully versatile, waterproof medium that is acid-free, non-toxic and has an easy flow tip and applicator, so its perfect to draw, dot, outline, create borders, colorize on either paper or fabric. For those using Adirondack ink, Taylor also has them in 11 shades of the Adirondack colors, so that you can match your liquid pearl embellishment color perfectly with the Adirondack ink on your project.

Step One:
It is best to use the liquid pearls embellishment after all the elements to your card has already been assembled because otherwise if you are working on your card still - it might smear. Here I have created a card using Jen Del Muro's sketch for this week and the stamp is from Taylor's... Year of Sweets 1 stamp set. The Emerald Green Liquid Pearls that Taylor has in her store are awesome! It is soooo shimmery, shingy and it has a very thin applicator for precise projects.


Step Two.
I like to trace around the areas that I am highlighting. Here, I highlighted some of the grass, and 4 leaf clovers in the Emerald Green liquid pearl.

Step Three.
Okay - I admit it! I am addicted to dots :) Here I go over the star with the sentiment Good Luck, from the Year of Sentiments stamp set.

*** One of the keys to get a precise dot is to hold the bottle downward - and shake it down over a scrap piece of paper- this helps bring all the liquid pearls down and you don't have to squeeze very hard.
***The other important thing is to maintain a regular pressure while squeezing the bottle - this will ensure precise simillarly shaped dots.

Step Three.
I also like to highlight the Designer Paper (DP) with some liquid pearls because this gives it a nice texture and slight sheen.

Step Four.
Drying Time: The recommended drying time on the bottle is to dry flat for 24 hours - but that is for big projects, for these little dots and outline - I find that its good to let them dry for about a half hour (although having said that -- I am usually taking pics of my projects while they are still wet because I just can't wait :) lol!) Its nice to let it dry by a window or somewhere where little hands or pets can't jump on them :)

Using some more of the liquid pearl colors Taylor has over at the store, I made a little present to give to my friend's daughter, for easter. I used the liquid pearls on a onesie - it is good to pre-wash fabric before using. The only thing about fabric, is that it is important to lay a piece of cardboard under the fabric before painting. I actually find it easier to paint on fabric. You can mix the colors around and the create a whole new set of colors. Fabric also takes a longer time to dry - they recommend 24 hours laying flat (but wait for 72 hours before machine washing - which you do on gentle cycle with a mild detergent, no bleach)

I like to put all the colors on paper plate and take a little bit with a brush over the image on the fabric. The liquid pearls will apply almost translucently over the fabric and you can layer up the colors for a darker color. I loved making this little onesie using the latest stamp release: Sweet Spring .

-----I love using liquid pearls and I hope you do too!! They are so inexpensive and they go such a long way on so many projects and creations. You can pick this up at the Taylored Expressions store - speaking of which, Taylor is celebrating the First Birthday of the Taylored Expressions Store and she wants to invite you to the party! 

The festivities will last all weekend long with games and prizes on her blog! There will be drawings for Party Favor Packages for three days - Friday (today), Saturday and Sunday, with a different package given away each day. Taylored Expressions -Release Day and some fun Blog Candy!

Good Thursday Morning everyone,

Yay!! It's release day over at Taylored Expressions and Taylor's newest stamp sets: Sweet Spring and her new line of stamps: Whimsical Wishes are now available.... hop on over and check it out!.

Here is a little few tidbits before you go... I had to create one more card using the Sweet Spring set -because ist is just tooo sweet. I love this image of a cupcake in a basket - too cute!! The sentiment reads: a basketful of good wishes.
The whole basket is popped up on dimensionals because I wanted it to look as though Cuppie is acutally sitting in the basket. The basket handle is actually a ribbon from the Easter Key Ingredients Kit. Speaking of baskets, did you see the basket die cut that Taylor Featured on her blog yesterday -- its TOOO cute!!.

I also wanted to make a scrapbook layout using the Easter Key Ingredients Kit,...... I absolutely love the versatility in this kit!. I don't usually scrap alot, but I had to when I saw the sketch that my awesome blog buddy and fellow Paper Craft Planet DT member, the very talented Jen Tapler, had created. I adore, adore adore Jen, she is just bubbly, soooo sweet, hilarious and uber talented! Jen has created a challenge every Sunday at PaperCraftPlanet - called Scrappy Sunday. Here is the sketch for this week: As soon as I saw it I had to play along

All of the papers and elements are from the Easter Key Ingredient's kit (the only thing that isn't is the stamps for the words "my sweet" and the little brown button. I cut out some of the circle images from one of the DP in the kit and added them as embellishments because the paper is just sooo darn pretty - I LOVE this kit for this project because I just LOVE the colors! I love how the paper and embellishments looks all scrapped together :) I can't wait to get more of this kit and keep going on my daughter's album.

Taylor has these awesome calendar stands in her store that hold 6 x 6 papers - in this awesome way with 6 x 6 plastic protectors - check it all out here. I thought this was such a great way to display this in our living room. You can also paint the stand whatever color you would like to paint it - but I kinda like it like it is...

This is one of my most favorite pictures of my little one - I love this picture because sometimes when I look at this picture, I see a glimpse of her when she is a teenager - have you ever done that - where you have looked at a little child - and suddenly you can see what they might look like when they are all grown up? This is also the first time that she let me put her hair into a ponytail - she would rather run around with her hair disheveled in her face (most often times with oatmeal in it :) rather than letting me comb it - just combing it sometimes can be SO dramatic... so I was rather plum pleased when she not only let me brush it and tie it, but also take a picture of her! I put a blue wash over the picture and added some texture in photoshop before printing.

She is my little cupcake because she is just yummy! I used the small cupcake stamp from Taylor's set Home Sweet Home (from the Christmas set) and then stamped it onto two of the sheets from the Easter Key Ingredients set. I then stamped an individual letter on them and cut them out individually... it was such a labor of love - but I totally loved every minute of it! I put the 6 x 6 layout in the plastic protector and then hung it from the binder rings on the calendar stand. I was thinking to display it in our living room and each week add a layout to it - so its always changing.

Paper - Everything is from the new Easter Key Ingredients from Taylored Expressions. The only paper that is not is the darker brown chocolate matte from the Paper Company.

Inks: The sentiment "My Sweet" was stamped in Night of Navy, The cupcake images were stamped in Baroque Burgundy and the letters were stamped alternatively in Taken with the teal and Rose Red, Martha brown
